Var

Obligations, promises, and guilt are the building blocks of society and the source of many powers. Most tend to forget there is one bookeeper, who makes sure every oath is sacredly bound. All of them, from the child's promise to their parents to paladins' holy vows; they are regulated by Var.

Var has many names. Many forms. Many masks. No matter what, they all come back to the single fact: The Devil always gets his due.

Ideals

Obligation: Every promise, vow, or oath must be fulfilled no matter the cost. To break an oath is to defy the natural order of fate itself.

Balance: It's important to maintain a strict sense of balance, ensuring that rewards and punishments are always equal. Every oath binds and every transgression must be repaid equally.

Control: Power through control is valuable. Those who hold power should shape the world in their image, and the promise of obedience should alwys be enforced.

Flaws

Obsession: Something obsession can make him overly rigid in dealings. He holds people to promises, even those made out of desperation or ignorance causing uncessary suffering.

Manipulative: While he values fufillment, he is not above twisting words and intent to ensure that deals work in his favor. This often leads to unintended consequences.

Harsh: Devotion to balance can make him unforgiving, punishing those who break oaths with relentless consequence even when leniency might be called for.

Fears

Dishonesty: The collapse of the very structure he stands upon: breaking of promises, shirking of responsibilty. Without oaths, the world would descend into chaos and anarchy.

Disloyalty: A world where loyalty no longer holds is a world where his power would cease to exist.

Revolution: Those who hold oaths and promises rebel against the established order he maintains.

Mannerisms

Quiet, Measured: Slow, deliberate tones, as if choosing each word to ensure that it binds the listener in some subtle way.

Lingering Gaze: It feels like he is always measuring the very essence of one's soul.

Constantly Adjusting: He is seen always adjusting his attire, as if constantly shifting between personas. He wears many faces, but none feel true.
